Traduction de termes français pour CV

BAC : – évitez bac en abrégé ou bac C, ce qui ne veut rien dire pour les étrangers.
– évitez aussi de traduire par A level ou O level, ce système est assez complexe en Grande–Bretagne et vous risquez des malentendus.
– évitez de même "high–school diploma", l’examen américain de fin d’études secondaires, dont le niveau est inférieur au bac français.
– écrivez Baccalauréat en toutes lettres with major in maths and upholstery.
– précisez l’âge (age 18 or 17)
 

LYCÉE : – Secondary school (GB), ou high school (US) sont les équivalents mais si vous voulez nommer l’établissement, mieux vaut garder le français, ex. : Lycée du Parc (secondary school), Lyon.

CLASSE PRÉPA :
– Pour nous il s’agit d’un Pre-degree course ou Foundation course in art & design.
On peut préciser ; 1-year / 2-year foundation course in art and design ou remplacer par d’autres disciplines ; par ex.



CONCOURS : en art ou design – Competition ou dans le sens d’épreuve – Entrance examination

Exemple : I was accepted for a place at the New York School of Art after an entrance examination.


DEUG : – two–year University degree in modern languages.

LICENCE : – Bachelor’s degree. C’est l’équivalent américain ou britannique.
– Le titre est souvent abrégé par exemple :

MAITRISE :
– Master’s degree in ...
– A noter que le Master’s degree représente plus qu’un travail de maîtrise, puisqu’il est souvent plus long : 18 mois au lieu d’ un an, mais l’équivalence fonctionne.

DOCTORAT :
– PhD (quelle que soit la spécialité, votre doctorat sera toujours un PhD c’est à dire un
  Philosopher’s Degree) .

GRANDE ECOLE :
– Le terme commence à être connu en Europe et en Amérique du Nord. Mieux vaut là encore le
conserver en français.Si vous voulez expliquer écrivez "graduate engineering schools".

ECOLE NATIONALE SUPERIEURE D’ART DE LIMOGES :
– Nom officiel de l’Ecole : laissez en français et en toutes lettres.
– Traduction ou explication : Limoges School of Art.

L’adjectif "graduate" est important : lorsque vous entrez à l’Ecole, vous êtes un undergraduate. En sortant de votre cursus de licence vous devenez un graduate. étudiant au–delà d’une licence, vous êtes un postgraduate student.
– Exemple : I was admitted to the Ecole Nationale Supérieure d’Art de Limoges in 2014 as a postgraduate student.
I was enrolled in the first year of the graduate course at Limoges School of Art in 2014.

STAGES :

– stage en entreprise : work experience / work placement / internship / probation (US)
faire un stage en entreprise : to do work experience

stage d’observation : study experience
Caroline a fait un stage chez Collins : Caroline did work experience at Collins.
– stage de formation : training course / traineeship
( stagiaire = trainee )
– faire un stage de formation professionnelle : to go on a vocational training course

Exemples : Je fais appel à vous pour effectuer mon stage en entreprise dans votre société

I would like to ask if you would be willing to let me to carry out my internship in your company.
– stage ouvrier : utilisez des verbes pour décrire votre travail. N’essayez pas de traduire "stage ouvrier" par worker’s training period ou autre. La notion de stage ouvrier n’existe pas, on parlera de industrial placement ou internship period et on décrira le poste de travail à l’aide des verbes qui correspondent aux tâches accomplies.
– Exemples :
Industrial placement at Sacilor, Unieux, France : worked on the assembly line, assisted the mechanical engineer in the control room.
Internship period at EDF, Paris : helped design quality control and analysis software.

OPTION :
– Major (exemple Major in product design où tout simplement specializing in ceramics).
– L’important est de faire ressortir tous les cours d’axes ou d’options qui identifient un profil. En effet, votre CV sera difficilement compris par les américains ou les britanniques car il est beaucoup plus généraliste que celui de leurs étudiants. Veillez donc, si vous postulez pour un stage ou une année de spécialisation à donner la liste de tous les cours d’option.
– Liste des cours en anglais : consultez l’annuaire de l’Université
d’Ottawa (http://www.uottawa.ca ) qui est bilingue et vous aidera à trouver les termes justes pour décrire les cours.

ASSOCIATIONS DIVERSES :
Junior Entreprise : junior entreprise : le terme est couramment employé aux USA .

Si vous voulez expliquer ce que vous faites, écrivez : the students run their own company, solicit and perform interesting projects for firms in the area.

ODB : student association : runs clubs (films, extra–mural performances), annual concert, student shop...
